some intramuros views

here are some pics i took while walking along the walls of intramuros. or at least, while walking along a part of it.

1861 or 1981?

smack at the center is the manila city hall and on your left is... sm manila. at the foreground is a part of the golf course just outside the walls of intramuros. it used to be a moat during the spanish colonial times, but when the americans came, they turned it into a golf course so that they could play golf all they want... not! lol seriously, the americans filled up the moat in order to curb the mosquito-borne diseases. but if you think about it, they're really hitting two birds with one stone--improving the health of the filipinos during that time and at the same time improving their golf scores. LOL

fill in the blank: manila city hall is _________ away from intramuros. (hehe. you'll know what i mean if you have also joined the old manila walking tours. :-D)

tunnel to puerta real, which is one of the entry gates to intramuros. at present, puerta real is one of the favorite places to hold weddings. in fact, one of my titos got married here. (in the garden, not in the tunnel. hehe.)

the inscription on the gate of puerta real.

  7. The rise of an SM Mall right next to Manila's City Hall kind of ruined the view for me. The ManilaCity Hall used to stand prominently alone in that section of Arroceros. Thanks to Henry Sy and his minions for not taking the effort to come up with a mall design that did not grab the prominence away from City Hall.

Beautiful shots. I love all of them because I love Intramuros. Thanks for sharing. :)

  8. sexy mom: shots of doors, tunnels or windows do have a nice effect, and leave a lot to the imagination. =) thanks! =)

ruy: yup, join one! very informative and fun. not your usual history lesson. it's worth every centavo =)

abaniko: yan ang gusto ko sa intramuros, daming ops for picture-taking. =) salamat! =)

kyels: wow, was that already two years ago? time does fly so fast. hope you can come back to manila to explore some more =)

verns: hamo, pag uwi mo dito pasyal tayo. =)

prinsesa musang: true! i just wonder what the year/s stand for. =)

panaderos: i share the same sentiments. it's just too bad that i wasn't old enough then to appreciate/remember this particular view pre-sm manila days. i'll have to content myself with old pics, which obviously have better views. =) i love intramuros too and i never get tired of visiting the place. thanks =)

  15. Hmm, naabutan ko pa yung Intramuros at Fort Santiago na wala pa yung mga business establishments like Starbucks and Jolibee sa paligid. I remember that there used to be the Manila Aquarium nearby (yes, we DID have an aquaria even back then) and The Round Table Golf course and restaurant. Di ka pa pinanganganak noon, so you better ask your mom and dad about those places, hehehe. :-D

  16. rudy: siguro naabutan ko rin ang intramuros na wala pa nung jollibee at mcdo (at especially starbucks) pero di ko na maalala. as for the manila aquarium, nakita ko nga yung sign nun sa may puerta real pero wala nga akong nakitang aquarium. sayang naman yun.

hehe, sige tatanungin ko yung round table golf course and resto =)
