at el hogar filipino

this is one of the things i did on my birthday... go to el hogar filipino building along juan luna st. in binondo. it is my most fave building there coz even though it's in a totally unkempt state (which is the understatement of the century, btw), i believe this place has a great potential. after all, countless commercials, music videos and tv shows have been filmed here. but strangely though, the building's beautiful mess makes it all the more enticing for me.

as you can see, the video is in sepia tone, which makes the place look really ancient. (i actually forgot to set it back to color, that's why. lolz) and if i were you, i guess i'd lower the volume. ;-)

  23. Thanks for sharing this video. I've never been inside this building even though many years ago, I had a summer job in the building across the street from it, another pre-war Manila classic.

The El Hogar building is a sentimental favorite of mine simply because my maternal grandfather used to work in that building for a British shipping firm. I wish its owners will have the good sense to start restoring the building, even if it's by one small project at a time.

    Great piece! :)

  24. verns: hindi ka late, andito lang nakapost ang vid. :) welcome back!

panaderos: wowwwwww! i wish i also know someone who used to work there. yup, i agree that the owners should restore the building. i'd like to see it returned to its former glory.

by the way, what's the name of that building where you worked? i think (hope) it's being restored coz i saw some people in there.

  25. It used to be called the FNCB (First National City Bank) building back in the old days. It's the dark gray building with massive columns facing the Pasig River. Unfortunately, I don't know what they call that building now.
