pasig river ferry sights

previously, i've ridden the ferry at night time so there wasn't much to be seen, save from the well-lighted malacanang palace and the bridges (jones bridge, macarthur/sta.cruz bridge, quezon bridge, ayala bridge, etc.). as for the rest of the trip (from escolta to guadalupe)... it's dark save for the occasional twinkle of lights from factories and some shanties that dot both banks of the pasig river.

a few weeks ago though, i was able to ride the ferry again, this time during the day. this time around, i did not inconvenience myself. and i made sure i got off at the right station. lol.

here are some of the pics my bro took from a point-and-shoot camera (from inside the ferry).

quezon bridge

at some point during the ride (where there are shanties such as this one), we suddenly heard something hit the right-side window of the ferry hard. we looked back and saw a group of kids trying to throw rocks at the ferry. one got a direct hit, which resulted in a dent at the window. i kid you not. so if you see a dent in the right-side window towards the back of the ferry, then that's what i rode. seriously though, something has to be done in order to protect the ferries from being damaged.

i'm the king of the pasig river!!!

looks like people at first glance

so that's it for my first daytime pasig river ferry ride. though there isn't much to see, i kind of liked it. better during the day than at night, though riding at night does have its charms, especially when the bridges are lighted up. then again, more work needs to be done in cleaning up the river and its banks in order to prevent damages. if the person who threw the rock at the ferry was bigger and stronger, the rock might have cracked the window or worse, broke it.

  1. Aha! Coincidently, I am mid-way though compiling my photos from the archives...and I'm tempted to write about the sea.

I've only been on a ferry once. That was many years ago before my sister graduated! Now she's married with kid.

Haha, it's been a while but I long to board one again after reading your entry.

  9. who knows, in time, the pasig river ferry ride will be an experience, at least similar to the singapore or bangkok boat rides--a tourist attraction.

it is also an alternative to commuting on the road

  10. What did those freaking kids think? that it's funny to throw rocks to passing ferries and boats?

    tools.

i agree to what you've said... that something needs to be done.

  11. Rocks thrown at ferries cause damages.
    Damages need to be repaired.
    Repairs have to be paid.
Cost of repairs will be charged to the customers by way of higher fares.

Laws need to be implemented (they already exist) so that damages to such ferries are prevented. Those ferries provide very good service and deserve protection.

Nice photos. I'm now curious about Royal Oil. I grew up near the area and my family has been there for generations. I have to check if Royal Oil's products were for cooking or for machine lubricating. :)

  12. "if the person who threw the rock at the ferry was bigger and stronger, the rock might have cracked the window or worse, broke it..." - Ganyan din ang ginagawa ng mga nakatira sa "home along the riles" sa mg dumadaang tren. IMHO, it's the best reason why these people should be uprooted, and sent to some far-flung provinces.

Teka, kala ko ba bawal kumuha ng pics sa loob ng ferry?

  13. kyels: hey there! if i'm not mistaken, the ferry service was opened a few months after you visited manila. =)

sexy mom: yes tita, that's what i'm hoping for--for the ferry service to be a tourist attraction and at the same time a convenient way of commuting. =)

kris jasper: i dunno about those kids. kung kaya ko lang languyin ang pasig sinugod ko na ang mga yun hehehe. =)

panaderos: so true. i just hope the ferries will be maintained well so ensure good service and safety to the passengers. about royal oil, that's the only old-looking structure i saw so far at the rockwell complex. wow, so is your family still in the area?

  15. Yes, I still have some relatives living in the area. I used to know that stretch of JP Rizal in Makati like the back of my hand. From the looks of it, I think my family will have a presence in Makati forever. :)

  16. zherwin: oo nga eh. gusto kong makita ang taong unang makakatakas ng pagkuha ng picture ng malacanang mula sa ferry. ha-ha! =)

panaderos: wow, sa jp rizal? i'm sure that place looks very different now from the time you last visited there. =)
