blast to the past

i would just like to share a couple of songs that's been riding on my earwaves (yes, you read right hehehe ü) lately. these songs are by the ink spots circa 1930's. if i didn't care was written by jack lawrence and was released in 1939. it was also the ink spots' first big hit. i'm not sure though when maybe was released. anyways, i hope you enjoy these songs.

just hit play =)

  1. I did enjoy them, Carlotta, especially If I Didn't Care. I must say you impressed me there. For a moment, I thought I read it wrong when you mentioned that the song became a hit back in 1939.

I'm very impressed because of the fact that it is quite rare to find Pinoys of your age who are into 1930s music. I love a lot of songs or hits from the 1930s and 1940s myself. If I could share one song with you, I love Billie Holliday's song, The Very Thought Of You, which was the theme of the movie "Forever Young" that starred Mel Gibson and Jamie Lee Curtis. These songs are treasures and should never be forgotten.

Thanks for sharing. I did enjoy both songs a lot. :)

  2. Kinilabutan ako sa songs, Carlotta. I imagine myself drinking cold beer while listening to these great songs 'round midnight. Ganda neto if you listen using a high-end stereo. Parang nasa gilid lang ang kumakanta. Thanks for sharing. :)

  3. The singer reminds me of Hoagy Carmichael, the guy who wrote and sang "Stardust".

If you listen to the songs from that era on the original track, complete with the hisses and other background noise usually heard on those old vinyls, mas ma-appreciate mo lalo ang music. ;-)

  4. panaderos: salamat. i also like if i didn't care. =) there's actually a store at the corner of maginhawa st. (and i forgot the other street's name) in UP village where this old man has a huge collection of LPs dating from 19-kopong-kopong. i've been meaning to go back there but unfortunately i keep forgetting.

abaniko: oh yeah, maganda ngang pakinggan ito round midnight. then just close your eyes then maiimagine mo nasa peace time ka. you're welcome. =)

rudy: naku, gusto ko ngang marinig ang ganung kanta with all the hisses and scratches. sabi ng mum ko tito ko merong ganun pro nakalimutan ko naman tanungin sa kanya nung binisita ko siya. =)
